Come Friday 6th October 2017, the 17th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup will kick off, with hosts India making their historic debut in a FIFA competition. The highly anticipated tournament will kick start with the Group A opener between Colombia and two-time champions Ghana. 24 countries from six confederations will be competing for one of the biggest honours in youth football.
Colombia and Ghana will mark a return to this competition after a long absence.
The South Americans last appeared in this tournament at Nigeria 2009, while it has been a decade since the Ghanaians last played in a global finals at this level after they finished fourth at Korea Republic 2007.
The Ghana Black Starlets go into this tournament as two times winners (Italy 1991) and (Ecuador 1995) as well as finishing runners-up on many occasions.
As usual the expectation of the Nation Ghana is high and coach Paa Kwesi Fabian and his boys are determined to bring back glory to Ghana.
The Starlets played in the CAF U-17 African Cup of Nations held in Gabon in May, they were runners-up at the end of that tournament. The big question is can the Starlets replicate the wonderful performance they displayed in Gabon back in May and even go a step further and once again win the ultimate? We wish the Black Starlets all the best.
Below are the fixtures for the Starlets group games;
6th Oct 2017 Colombia 11:30 Ghana
9th Oct 2017 Ghana 11:30 USA
12th Oct 2017 Ghana 14:30 India
