A group of indignant level hundred students of Koforidua Technical University have threatened a court action to place injunction on the 2018/2019 SRC elections over failure of the SRC to disburse SRC souvenirs to all fresher’s of the Technical university.
Speaking to KTUinsider, the convener of the group revealed that arrangements are far advanced to disrupt this year’s SRC election should the SRC fail to heed to their call by a stipulated time that he did not reveal. He added that should the university’s internal mechanism fail to yield result, they would be left with no other option than to go to court to seek redress.
It is a known norm that all novices of any tertiary institution in Ghana are given souvenirs which include text books, T- shirts, university cloth etc., to help them integrate better into the university community.
However, it is a different but sad story when Koforidua Technical University is brought under the focus of the lens. Freshers have been left without this entitlement for which they were billed and have paid for. They have left hanging for close to two semesters.
It would also be recalled that last week, students from the Faculty of Engineering (FoE) staged a demonstration against the SRC over this same controversial issue. With a couple of weeks left for the Kamasa led administration to hand over to a newly elected administration, it still remains uncertain whether freshmen would receive their souvenirs.
