I’m pretty sure most of you had your own reason for opting to do VIRA, I believe the VIRA program was introduced to help students who couldn’t get any placement in any organisation to do industrial attachment, among some who felt they have not learnt much to go out to the industries, some who wanted to finish an academic exercise and have much time working for school fees and finally those who just want to relax, rest, catch some fun at home, etc
I have some few foods for thought to share with you
Leave and make sure you get home safe, the university had an engagement with you from the 3rd to 21st June 2019, after this period, you own it to yourself answerable to your parents or guardians if you decide to stay a little longer or go elsewhere.
Take some days to rest; – Reflect on the semester gone by.
Take out a sheet of paper and answer these three questions:
- What did I do well in the past semester?
- What did I not do so well in the past semester?
- What will I do differently in the coming semester?
Get a job.
Don’t worry too much about what the job will pay. As the saying goes, “Take a job for what you will learn, not for what you will earn.”
Volunteer.
You can seek permission and print out an attachment letter and try volunteering in an organisation where you will learn new skills. Who knows if that could land you a job after school? Be cautious if you are using the university’s attachment letter to do any non-scoring attachment
Being a volunteer and serving is one of the best ways to spend a productive vacation.
- Join a clean-up day
- Mentor children who are in need

You have more time during school Vacations, so this is a great opportunity to start sleeping well, exercising regularly, and eating healthily.
Learn a new skill.
You could learn skills like…

Pick up a new hobby.
You will probably feel bored at some point during school Vacations. That’s the time to pick up new hobbies like…
