The brain is the most complex computer there ever could be. There are millions of tiny electrical connections between thousands of cells bearing DNA that connect with each other to control our actions.
Many people think of the brain as that organ located inside our heads that enables us to think! Well that may be one way of looking at it, but the brain enables us to see, hear, maintain our balance so we can walk straight. The brain enables us to laugh, frown, fall in love, be sexually aroused, dance, be angry, make decisions, to bathe, be neat, fold our clothes and sweep our houses, decide that it’s best to maintain a low paying job than be an armed robber. The brain even controls our sense of smell, smiling and even digestion or metabolism! Our hearing and understanding of music, ability to speak and learn languages, the appreciation of colour, the interest or ability to appreciate ‘beauty’ is all from the brain! There is a complex relationship between thr brain and the environment. That’s why when the brain is dead, your entire body cannot function again, it’s over. It’s also for that reason God made the head the most protected organ in the body, encased inside a tough layer of solid bone called the skull, so accidents like you falling down do not immediately destroy the brain.
When even one tiny bit of this billion electrical connections in any part of the brain is damaged even slightly, we can have significant problems. These problems often manifest in outward forms such as the so called abnormal behaviour, inability to maintain balance, improper gestures and mannerisms, poor executive function, poor memory, addiction, inability to see, hear or perceive colour, inability to grasp, poor sexual function, inability to keep the body neat, poor moods, excessive anger, seizures etc. In some people it can even lead to some strange abilities such as paranormal memorizing abilities such some “special children” who can commit a whole book to memory by reading it once, people who can recite a book backwards after reading it, autistic children who can add or multiply any number in seconds, or draw a whole city by flying over it once!
When someone has malaria do you laugh at them? When your friend has stomach ache do you tease them? The same way when someone can’t speak, has eyes that are poorly focused, behaves out of the ordinary, has epilepsy, down syndrome among others we need not laugh at them! They are just as unwell as a person who has malaria!
Note that we all have thousands of cells in our bodies and in our brains. These cells contain our DNA which is like the blueprint of our humanity. Our DNA as humans is about 99.9% similar! What this means is that you and the schizophrenic man on the street are 99.9% very much alike. It’s just a very tiny, 0.001% difference where there is a slight problem that causes the significant differences that you think you see. We are thus not any different from those with mental problems, and our brains could also get sick any day!
Take action today, be responsible. God bless.
Yours truly,
James Mawuli Gawu.
