Samuel Antwi from the Atomic Tennis Club defeated Isaac Titriku 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to emerge winner of the professional’s event at the fourth edition of the Babolat Tennis Singles Open which ended at the GHACEM Club House in Tema Community Seven on Saturday.
Antwi, a final year student of the Koforidua Technical University in the Eastern Region, proved too strong for his contenders in the one-week competition as he walloped Ofosu Bamfo 6-2, 6-0 in the quarter-final and beat Ghana’s number one seed Benjamin Fumi 7-6(10), 6-0 in the semi-final before meeting Titriku in the final.
In the preliminaries, Antwi thumped Aaron Asante 6-1, 7-5, won 6-0, 6-0 against Joseph Obimpeh and claimed 6-2, 6-2 victory over Francis Gbologo to pick a slot to the quarter-final.
For his prize, Antwi took home a trophy, GH₵500 as cash prize, customised Babolat tennis kits and he will get three-month gym access to the Baboo Fitness Centre.

In the ladies category, Yvonne Bruce Tagoe from the Volta River Authority (VRA) Tennis Club defeated Kate Coleman 9-5.
Other winners were Isaac Bempo (Ghacem Tennis Club) who defeated Job Obimpeh (Tema Tennis Club) 7-5, 6-3 in the men’s special group division, Desmond Ayaba (Baboo Sports) recorded a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Amos Asante (Saint Francis Academy) in the boys U-16 event.
Winners in each category received a trophy, tennis shoes, accessories and three months gym access to the Baboo Fitness centre.
Speaking at the event, CEO of Baboo Sports, Ismaila Nii Lante Lamptey, promised a much better tournament next year as they plan to extend the competition to other regions.
