Wa Polytechnic has held its seventh congregation on Saturday, 28th September, 2019 to confer Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates on two hundred and forty graduates who have successfully completed their Programmes of study in 2018.
The HND conferment was done by Professor Daniel A. Bagah, Chairman of the Governing Council of Wa Polytechnic. Out of the total figure, nine obtained first class honours.
The best female graduating student, Miss Balnye Rebecca Mporku, received a table top refrigerator from Dr. Alberta Bondzi-Simpson, a member of the Governing Council and a cash donation of One Thousand Ghana Cedis from Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister.
The overall Best graduating student, Zingunaa Paul also received a cash donation of One Thousand Ghana Cedis from Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih and a cash donation of Five Hundred Ghana Cedis from Professor Daniel A. Bagah, Chairman of the Governing Council of Wa Polytechnic. ICA -Ghana also rewarded the best graduating student and best female graduating student of the Accountancy Department with a cash donation of One Thousand Ghana Cedis each and a scholarship to pursue the ICA – Ghana Programme. Dr. Hamidatu Darimani, Dean of School of Engineering also rewarded the best female graduating student from the School of Engineering with an amount of Five Hundred Ghana Cedis.
Whereas the Acting Finance Office, Mr. Joseph Bendah also rewarded the best graduating student from the Business School with Five Hundred Ghana Cedis.
Mr. Iddrisu Ngmenipuo Mohammed, the Acting Vice Rector of the Polytechnic, in his report to the congregation, said the Polytechnic was proud to acknowledge its successful partnership agreements with the University of Kara (Togo), the Social Entrepreneurs International (USA), the Institute of Directors (Ghana) and the Wa Co-operative Credit Union. He admonished the the graduands to be good ambassadors of the Polytechnic wherever they find themselves. He also made an appeal to the Government to convert the Wa and Bolga Polytechnics to Technical University status.
The Guest of honor, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih commended Polytechnic graduates for their Sterling contribution to the Ghanaian economy. The Honorable Regional Minister challenged the graduands to be job creators and not job seekers. He urged them to belong to the few people who make things happen and not those who watch things happen. Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih said it was his desire to see the Polytechnic converted to a Technical University in the near future. The Honorable Regional Minister said he had made a request to Management of the Polytechnic to submit to his office list of projects that were abandoned and that he had since forwarded same to the Minister of Education for consideration.
