The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released a statement to inform the general public to be cautious of promises being made by some remedial institutions to register private candidates for the 2020 West African Senior School Certificxate Examination (WASSCE).

The statement, signed by the Public Affairs Officer of WAEC, Ms Winifred Ampaw, said the WASSCE for school candidates to be written in April 2020 is meant for only students who are in recognised public and private senior high schools and have studied for three years. It said the exam results have a component of 30 percent continuous assessment.

Hence, private individuals who register through remedial schools and hope to write the examination in April 2020 may be doing so at their own risk, according to the statement. The council says that data for all registered candidates for the 2020 examination will be matched with its existing database.
It warns that if it finds that some candidates are not students of recognised senior high schools, they would be disqualified from writing the exam in 2020.
