Ghana Education Service Lately has become an Avenue to chase Ranks rather than focusing on the Job.
A trained teacher who leaves college previously was placed at a rank of Senior Superintendent II and qualified for the Rank of Senior Superintendent I if they teach in Rural Areas for 2 years or Urban areas for 5 years, they are also qualified for study leave which earns one the requisite qualification to be upgraded to Principal Superintendent, one step away from Senior Superintendent I and Two steps away from Senior Superintendent II, after Principal Superintendent Rank, one still has over 6 ranks ahead of them, and needs to serve for 5 years to qualify for each, this means on has to serve for at least 35years to qualify for the rank of Director General Rank on the Scale, though this rank physically has been politicized, it has a grade in the system and all staff are now focused on chasing higher ranks rather than doing the work, many teachers feel they have a long way to go based on the ranks and work towards attaining that height instead of improving services in the classroom.
