The issuance of license to professional teachers in the country is well underway. The licence is believed to bring professionalism into the teaching or education sector.
Before a teacher can renew his or licence, he or she must present a Continuous Professional Development Log Book (CPD Log Book) to District Education Directorate for rigorous assessment. A page of the CPD Log Book is divided into five columns.
From left, date of the activity, acvitity or event, venue of the activity, topics covered and remarks or comments about the activity.
All professional activities are entered into the Continuous Professional Development Log Book. These activities include School-Based In-service Training, Cluster-Based In-service Training, number of classes exercises conducted, NTC approved courses attended, number of staff meetings and other activities.
The District Education Directorate will scrutinise the activities entered into CPD Log at the end of every academic term or semester. Appropriate mark or points will be allotted to each of them.
The Directorate will then login into the National Teaching Council’s system and update the information about the teachers.
What is compelling to note is, teachers have been given relatively no education about the CPD Log Book.
