M. TECH (RESEARCH) IN ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY

10.1 Students’ Admission
Minimum Entry Qualification
To be eligible for the M. Tech (Research) in Environmental Health and Safety, candidates must hold the following:

A first degree with a minimum of second-class lower division or better in relevant programmes such as Environmental Management & Technology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Allied Health related degrees. All foreign qualifications would be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to Koforidua Technical University (National Accreditation Board Act, 2007 [Act 744 (2(2b)]). All foreign applicants must note that the American SAT, TOEFL etc, cannot in themselves be acceptable as entry qualifications into Koforidua Technical University.
M. TECH CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT

M. TECH IN WATER RESOURCES ENGINEERING AND MANAGEMENT

Applicants seeking admission into the Department of Civil Engineering must have the following qualification
M. Tech Water Resources Engineering and Management
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree a of Second-Class Upper division, Second- Class Lower Division with minimum of two years’ experience or its equivalent in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, Physics, Water Resources Management, Natural Resources Management or any field relevant to the water resources from a recognized University, Environmental Science.
Candidates with a pass shall be interviewed by the Departmental Admissions Committee and those who pass the interview will be admitted.
Foreign Applicants
Applicants with foreign certificates must submit documents from accredited institutions and the certificates should be related to the criteria for each specialization. All foreign qualifications would be referred to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for determination of equivalences and eligibility for admission to Koforidua Technical University (National Accreditation Board Act, 2007 [Act 744 (2(2b)]).
M. TECH RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS ENGINEERING
STUDENT’S ADMISSION
Entry Requirement
- First or second-class Honors degree in renewable energy/mechanical/electrical/chemical engineering/ physics/chemistry or related engineering programme.
- an equivalent national and international qualification or
- relevant work experience in combination with a degree below second-class Honors.
Foreign certificates shall be referred to GTEC for evaluation
International students whose first language is not English are required to have one of the following English language qualifications before they can register for the programme. However, applicants from English-speaking countries may have these requirements waived.
- IELTS 6.0 (no less than 5.0 in any element)
- TOEFL paper-based 550 (no less than 4.0 in TWE)
- TOEFL IBT 79 (no less than 17 in any element)
A candidate with a non-researched Master’s Degree in Renewable Energy Systems
Engineering or a related programme seeking admission to do the research M. Tech
Renewable Energy Systems Engineering programme must:
- Have obtained a CGPA of 2.0 or better in the master’s course work,
- Submit an official transcript of academic record.
- Submit, at least, one referee report.
- Submit a pre-proposal of 2-3 pages on the intended area of research
MSc ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE

Minimum Entry Qualification
To be eligible for the MSc in Accounting and Finance programme, candidates must hold the following:
(a) General requirements for all applicants:
The minimum requirements for entry into the master’s degree study shall be in accordance with the requirements specified on the KTU website or printed handbook as well as in the Ordinance and Regulations for research degrees of KTU.
(b) Specific Requirements:
Specifically, there are four entry routes into the programme as set out below:
1. Entry route One: Applicants with Accountancy Background
a. Generally, First-degree holders in Accountancy discipline:
Thus, holders of any relevant Accounting related undergraduate degree (e.g. BSc. Administration-Accounting Option, Bachelor of Art Administration –Accounting, and Economics, Bachelor of Art Administration, Bachelor of Business Administration-Accounting and Mathematics, Bachelor of Commerce-Accounting, Bachelor of Technology in Accounting, Bachelor of Technology in Accounting with Computing, Bachelor of Technology in Accounting and Finance etc) from a recognized University.
b. First degree with at least second-class lower division with part 1 or 2 qualified or fully qualified Certificate of the ACCA, CIMA, ICAG, ICAEW, CPA, CFA, and similar accounting and finance professional qualifications;
2. Entry Route Two: Applicants with First Degree in any subject with accountancy work experience background
i. First degree in any subject with at least second-class lower division from a
recognized university
ii. At least 5 years’ experience in Accountancy practices in either the private and / or public sector.
3. Entry Route 3: Applicants with Masters in any subject and accountancy work experience background
Admission requirements for students to enroll under route 3 on the MSc. Accounting and Finance programme are all the following:
i. First degree in any subject with at least second-class lower division from a recognized university,
ii. Holders of a Master’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University,
iii. At least 5 years’ experience in Accountancy practices in either the private and/or public sector.
4. Entry Route 4: Applicants with Qualified Professional Accountancy Certification background
Admission requirements for students to enrol under route 4 on the MSc. Accounting and Finance programme is:
• Holders of Qualified certification/membership of any recognized Professional
Accountancy Body such as ICAG, ICAEW, ACCA, AICPA & CIMA.
MSc DATA SCIENCE

MSc IN COMPUTER SCIENCE
Students’ Admission
Minimum Entry Qualification
To be eligible for the MSc in Computer Science programme, candidates must hold the following:
1. Bachelor of Technology (B-Tech./BSc)
A first degree with a minimum of Second Class or better in Computer Science-related programmes (such as Computer Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, and Information Technology, ICT, Software Engineering). Candidates with Third class in a computer science related environment are eligible to apply. These candidates will have to go through a 3-hour Aptitude test (consisting of six (6) sections: general knowledge, software engineering, system analysis and design, database management, discrete mathematics, and programming fundamentals.) Candidates who obtain a 50% pass mark shall be eligible for admission.
